Juno and the Paycock

Yesterday, all the TY's went to Dublin on an English Trip. We went to see the Yeats exhibition and then went to the National Museum and National Library. At 2 o' clock we went to the Abbey Theatre to see Juno and the Paycock, the play that we read in English class. I really enjoyed it.

Isabel seem to have enjoyed it as well. Read her blog post here.

Martha didn't understand Johnny's character until she saw him on stage. Read her post here.

Briery Gap Drama competition

Saidbh was blogging about the Briery Gap Drama Festival this week.......

"The Briery Gap Drama competition was on Tuesday and St. Wolstans had four drama entries in the heats. My group did a play based on the poem 'But You Didn't' by Merryl Glass. We adapted the poem and wrote a script with a scene for each verse.

Drama at Mullingar

Good luck to both TY classes, and all 4 productions, that will be representing St Wolstans in the Briary Gap Drama competition tomorrow in Mullingar.

All plays were written by the TY students themselves and I think we have budding actors and script writers in our midst!

Big thanks to Ms Guilfoyle, Ms Brogan and Ms Rowan for all their help and support.

Good luck girls.

Drama workshops...provided by our own students!

Aoife tells us about the recent drama workshop that Ms Guilfoyle and 5 of our own TY's did with class Emnet in their English drama class.....

On Thursday the 7th of November class Emnet had a workshop with the 5 students who went to a Drama workshop on the Tuesday at Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin. (while they were gone.. We were getting the Cervical Vaccination done =[ ).

It was really funny with the different excerises. We did a trust excerise, eg everyone in a circle and really close together with our right shoulder facing into the centre, then we all leaned back into a sitting position and we all leaned on each other. This gave us trust, if one fell down the rest followed :P..

All this was to help us with the drama we are doing in English. Our class is creating a drama (which we are going to enter into a competition :D ). One group is doing a drama about a car crash while the other group is doing one based on an abuse victim.

We are having people in from Accord next week to help us with relationships and we hope that after the mid-term the Headspace drama group will come into us to help us with our drama :)..
Well I'm off..

Drama competition

Class Desta were recently involved in the Transition Year Drama Competition, and the class was thrilled to get into the semi-finals, with our dramas, "Seventeen" and "Us and Them". The following Thursday, we were back in the Mullingar performing the plays again.
We wern't as nervous that time and got the chance to enjoy ourselves on-stage.

We were told to sit tight, and wait for the results, which were sadly, not good. We didn't make it to the finals in Cork, but the whole experience was well worth all the hours rehearsing and leanring our lines. The whole class thoroughly enjoyed the whole competition.
A big thank you to Ms. Guilfoyle for co-ordinating it all, and for putting up with us messing up our lines!

- Alex, Desta

Well done anyway to class Desta. I'm sure you were just piped at the post for a place in the finals:)

Drama Competition

On Monday the 25th January TY Desta went to Mullingar with their English teacher Ms. Guilfoyle to take part in a TY drama competition. There were two plays entered from our class "Us and Them" and "Seventeen". In the weeks and days leading up to the day we were all very nervous but also very excited at the same time. I was in the play "seventeen" and it was great fun preforming our play.

We left the school on Monday after registration for Mullingar. The first group were on at 11am and we got to watch them as they were performing. They were excellent!! Then it was my groups turn to perform. It was nervous standing in the wings watching the girls on stage and waiting for your turn but once you were on stage it was grand. We did really well. Each group got a certificate for taking part and the judges commented on each performance.

It was nerve wracking waiting to see if we got through but that was put to bed when we found out on Tuesday in our English class that both groups got through to the next round and will have to go back to Mullingar again and preform our plays again.

Well done to all the girls and thank to Ms Guilfoyle for all she did to help us!!!

It was soo much fun and I actually cant wait to do it again !!!

Drama class

In English class, Desta are doing plays. At the beginning of the year, we split up into two different groups to do separate plays. Ms Guilfoyle then told us about a drama competition, and we were all keen to take part. The time went in a flash and before we knew it, the play was a week away!

We spent all of the time before Christmas holidays, coming and going to class having to learn our lines and act out the play. We had too pick out different music to go with different scenes in the play, which was really fun, dancing around the classroom to different songs!

It wasn't always going according to plans though. We had disagreements about the different lines and roles, and then the play overall. However, Ms Guilfoyle put the arguments to rest, and we got back to work!

Well, tonight is the day before the competition, and I am so nervous, as are all of the girls. Everyone is worrying about same things - what if someone doesn't turn up? or what if someone forgets their lines? Its all the little things as well, but as soon as we're up on stage in front of everyone, we'll just forget about the worries and get on with it....just make sure not to make eye contact with the audience :L Once we're all up there anyway, there isn't any going back! We're going to have to put our all into it and make the most out of it!

I'd just like to say good look to all of the girls in the plays tomorrow, hope all goes well! And thanks to Ms Guilfoyle for doing the plays with us!
