A trip to St Enda's Park

Sarah Louise and Aoife give a quick report on last week's trip to St Enda's Park. We recorded this with very little preparation - it did take 7 attempts to get it right though!

Niamh's Fáinne Challenge

Niamh has a new challenge....

"In Irish Class, we are doing a Fáinne Challenge.

Well, with it... people get a gold fáinne (Ring/Badge) if they are fluent in Irish, or a silver fáinne if you have a basic ability to speak Irish.

The teacher of the other Irish class is going to come into our class and talk to each of us to see how well we can speak it.

I really want to get the Fáinne Ór (gold ring/badge) to prove my Irish... so I really better get practicing my Irish Speaking!

Ruth does some Irish Dancing!

Ruth was dancing this week.....

"Today in Irish we went down to the hall with the other T.Y. class to do a bit of Irish dancing. It was really fun and I think everyone enjoyed it. I thought it was great fun because I haven't done Irish dancing since I was in primary school.

All of the dances we did were done in groups of eight of four. Strangely enough I remembered some of the steps which I was very proud of! Mr. S had Irish music playing which made it better and the whole year was dancing which was really funny.

At the end my good friend Niamh did a solo dance, and she was amazing, I thought she was going to kick me in the face one time!"

Irish dancing

Today, Class Selam did Irish dancing with Ms.Farrell. Becky Eiffe and Eva Brady from Desta came in to show us how to do it.

We did two different dances; The Haymakers Jig and The Marching Dance. We all had really good fun and Ms Farrell hopes to do it agian next week. We are all looking forward to it :)

And Meg says....

Today in Irish class we were introduced to the world of Irish dance by Becky and Eva! It was great fun. We danced to jig music and learned the "1 2 3" step, some of us were better at it then others. We also did group dances like the Haymakers Jig and The Marching dance. The moves were pretty basic but me, having no co-ordination couldn't quite handle them!
The whole class listened and learned and had loads of fun in the process! :) Bonding!!!!
Hopefully we'll get another shot at it! :)

Yeats, Monk and Mc D's!

On the 26th of November the whole of Transition Year went on a trip into Dublin .

To start the day we went to the National History Museum were we looked at bog bodies and ancient Irish archives. The Bog Bodies were brilliant. They were preserved so well and amazed the whole class. At one o clock we walked into Grafton Street for lunch. After a few mc Donald’s stops, a chicken tikka roll and a twirl bar, a group of us decided we would get into the Christmas spirit and started to sing Christmas Carols. To our delight we were cheered and smiled at and gave a great festive feeling to the busy shoppers.

We returned at 2pm and began the Yeats painting exhibition. It was beautiful. His background history and he use of colour interested the group and we were all immediately submerged in late 1800’s masterpieces.

Then followed the Monk exhibition. This was more modern art, but with a severe twist. Monk’s life and peculiar paintings were a different atmosphere to Yeats colourful creations. But his individuality and extremely harsh life kept us on our toes.

Overall the day was a success and we all enjoyed the day thoroughly, learning about our native painters, historic figures, Irish literature, and ancient artefacts.

Irish trip to town

On Thursday 26th November both Desta and Selam headed into Dublin to the National Library, The National Museum and The National Gallery for our Irish trip. When we arrived we went to the National Library first where we were met by a tour guide. She brought us around and showed us the differnent things about Yeats, his life story, his family, how he wasn't very good in school, Maud Gonne, the events that inspired his writing etc..
We then went to the National Museum. We saw all the different things like the Bog bodies the Gold exhibition and many other interesting things. The bog bodies were so cool, they were so well preserved. One of them still had finger nails and hair.

After the National Museum we went for lunch on Grafton Street and we met Martin King and the Australian Rugby Team. It was great fun and we got pictures with them too :) Martin King is so nice haha.

After lunch we went to the National Gallery where we were also met by a tour guide. We saw pictures by Jack.B Yeats, Edward Munch etc..

Overall the day was really good and it was enjoyed by all :)

22/10/09-in IT class-

Its weird how after all that excitement and work towards the fun walk last week and this week its all over. Although we didn't win we were so happy with our Selam Traffic Jam! Ahhhh it was so much fun. I stood at Willowbrook 1 with Ellie and Niamh and even though we didnt see every class coming out to the judges we got to see all the costumes when they walked past us at the crossing. Everyone looked awesome! The rain was a nuisance, I made a "Cows Crossing" sign and it ran all over the place but it was funny :)

There's so many projects that we are doing atm, but it makes it much easier to learn things when you do projects! I just finished a project on Marilyn Monroe in History, that was pretty cool!

Ehm... we are doing a project on Jack B Yeats in Irish and in Geography we are doing the deadliest project ever - An Around the World Trip! Its so much fun! We get in groups and then we pick countries that we want to travel to and then we like book flights and hotels and things we are going to do and all! It is AWE-SOME! We actually feel like we are going on the trip and we're all excited hehe.

We had a talk today on Recyling and then another one from Garda Roche about drugs. Speaking of Garda.... Work experience in November for me is in Finglas, Blanchardstown and Cabra Garda stations. Hehe great place for Garda work experience, I'm sure they're pretty busy in there hehe. But Im sure it will be good :) My March work experience placement is in Urban Outfitters...I cannot wait, its my dream to work in a place like that, ahhh I love it!!!!! :P Cant wait for both the work experiences!
Well class is over in Like 5 minutes so best be off!
