Colour Me Beautiful

Eimear from class Amina writes about her Colour Me Beautiful workshop this week………

“Yesterday, we had a workshop with two women from Colour Me Beautiful. It was really good. We were divided into groups depending on our hair, eye and skin colouring. There was a model from each category selected to go to the top of the room where the women put collars of different colours on them. It was really obvious that some colours are not meant for certain skin tones.
I was told I am a "soft". I would never have thought of wearing some of the colours they suggested, and it was good to find out what didn't suit me. I won't be throwing out my whole wardrobe or anything, but it's good to know for when I'm buying new clothes :D”

“The two TY classes were introduced to two ladies from a programme called Colour Me Beautiful. (They reminded me of Trinny and Susanna).
At the start they told us what skin type we were, deep, clear, soft, light and more. Each of these groups were shown what colours were suited to them, I found this very useful :)

Emma from my group (soft) went up and the colours that suited her were very obvious, they made her skin light up and the colours that didn’t just looked weird.

We also did a style personality survey, to show us how we shop and what we like to buy, I got a mixed result which wasn't very good :S haha, Finally they went through body shapes such as pear (bigger on bottom), and hour glass (equal on top and bottom but curvy). They told us what type clothes would suit these figures too :)
Overall I found this really good.”

Fashion Show reports

Over the last term, all three TY Home Economics classes were working hard to produce an outfit that they would model in the TY fashion show.

Each class group were split into groups of about three girls each, and we were given a plain white t-shirt and jeans. From this, our task was to design and make an outfit by reshaping and adding things to the outfit to make it original. There were 3coloured themes and each group were given one of these colours -black & white, purple, and red.
Groups worked so hard to get their outfit completed and to make sure it fit their model correctly etc. Each group also made a story board complete with sketches and swatches of material to show their inspiration and the hard work that they underwent to make the outfit look as good as it did.
Last Friday the 11th of December 2009 was the day of the fashion show. Prior to this each group had selected a model and speaker and someone to do the group's music. Each group got their own time to introduce their outfit and say a little bit about it, while the model walked the runway and the piece of music that linked to the outfit was played.
On Friday, it was very evident all the hard work we all put in, because the outfits and models all looked amazing! There was a variation of outfits, mainly dresses, from short and modern to long and vintage. The day was great, and this whole project was something we all enjoyed a lot. It was such a good chance to use our creativity and work in groups! :)

As part of the T.Y. home economics programme, the T.Y.s had to make an outfit of their choice.
They were put into groups given either the colours of purple, red or black and white. They had to make their outfit using a white t-shirt and a white pair of jeans. They also had to pick a theme to style their outfit around. The fashion show was held on Friday the 11th of December and showcased the finished costumes. Ms. Carpenter and Ms. Leonard had the very tough job of choosing the winners in each class, the most innovative and the overall winner.

Overall it was a very enjoyable afternoon that showcased the talent of T.Y.!!

Creative students!

On Friday I attended the TY fashion show in the gym. I am so amazed by what I saw. The girls were given a pair of white jeans and white T shirt from Penneys, and the task was to create an outfit from them. The photograph shows some of the amazing costumes that were created.

Thanks to Ellie for the photographs and I know she is goimg to write something for here soon.

Well done to all the girls and a big thanks to their Home Ec teachers, Ms Moore and Ms Healy. Ms Carpenter and Ms Leonard had the near impossible task of finding a winner.

Home Economics

In our Home Ec class we were given the task to complete a dress made from a pair of jeans and a t-shirt from Penneys. My group(Aoife, Nicolle, Caoimhe, Eimear, Sophie) were given a black and white theme. We decided to get our inspiration from Bijork’s swan dress. Caoimhe is our model for the dress. This is my favourite project so far because it needs a lot of creativity from the group. :)

Colour me Beautiful

Last week, TY’s heard a strange request on the morning announcements....we all had to bring in lipstick for the following Friday! As this strange request was read out to us, we were all very interested and excited to see what the following Friday held for us.

Friday came and that afternoon we were joined by an image consultant. With the majority of us being a big group of girly girls her name aroused our curiosity. We waited with anticipation for her to start. The two hours flew by. She gave us tips on colours that suit our skin tones and clothing shapes that would suit us as well. The odd lipstick request was clarified for us when she looked at each one of our lipsticks and advised us whether they were a good colour for our skin or not.

Overall the day was very enjoyable and really gave us an insight into dressing and looking well.
